Digital Retinal Photography
The practice has recently invested in the latest, state-of-the-art digital retinal camera, enabling us to take photos of the back of the eye, so that we are able to monitor the health of the eyes more accurately. A low level flash and non-contact equipment ensures the technique is safe, painless and quick. The advantages to you and us are:-
- It enables you to see what we have been looking at.
- The image is stored on a computer and can be recalled so that we can monitor any changes from one visit to the next
- This better, more detailed inspection of the central area of the retina allows for a fast and more reliable diagnosis than has previously been possible.
- If it is necessary for you to be referred to an eye specialist the picture can be sent with your referral.
We feel this new technique gives our patients the best possible care and peace-of-mind and is particularly advisable for people who are concerned about Glaucoma, Diabetes and Macular Degeneration. The NHS doesn’t fund this extra test, so there is a small additional charge of £10, but we do encourage everybody to consider having it done.
